Dr Faisal Mushtaq
Centre for Immersive Technologies
Dr Faisal Mushtaq is Associate Director of the Centre for Immersive Technologies, one of the UK’s leading XR research centres and holds a position as Associate Professor in Psychology at the University of Leeds. With a background in the cognitive neuroscience of learning, he has worked with VR technologies for over a decade and has acted as academic advisor for several SMEs. He was awarded a “250 Great Minds Fellowship” as recognition for his growing reputation as an international research leader. He has published extensively in a variety of high-impact journals on the use of XR for augmenting human learning and performance. Notably, his research team were the first to demonstrate potential cognitive and visual deficits following VR exposure in young children. Most recently, he led the development of a report published in partnership with Health Education England and a network of clinicians, scientists and XR businesses which outlined a vision for realising the potential of immersive healthcare solutions for the NHS in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Jeremy leads PwC’s Metaverse Technologies team, helping clients across all industries successfully implement virtual world technologies including virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR), collectively known under the umbrella term extended reality (XR). He is also the author of Reality Check, a book that anyone can pick up to better understand how these technologies are being used in organizations all over the world. Reality Check has been adopted by companies, universities and startups alike.
Jeremy has helped clients use Metaverse technologies to improve their training programmes, run more impactful remote meetings, enhance reports, and more. He has led the development of a range of products from smartphone to headset-based solutions which have featured computer-generated graphics, 360 video and volumetric video.
He has written professionally published books on the subject, given talks to businesses and governments, and he and his projects have been featured in the media including The Financial Times, The Economist, and the BBC. He has worked with organizations like the World Economic Forum and currently sits on the advisory board of Immerse UK, a UK government backed network, to support the growth of Metaverse technologies in business.
